“I always believed in you!” Her voice was hoarse.
Blinded by tears, hands shaking, this was the first time she had hesitated taking a shot since she had to carefully aim for her own hand. But she couldn’t breathe, her throat was dry and she couldn’t believe where her arrow is aimed.
“Back when we first met— Even when I died alone—!” Her voice cuts off, she wanted to rub at her eyes so badly. She wished she could just wipe away what she was seeing.
Jack had sided with the darkness, and she had been brought back as a Guardian. A Guardian of Bravery they had told her.
But she wasn’t brave enough to take this shot. She wasn’t brave enough to let go. The irony could make her laugh.
His golden eyes stared up at her, with all the sincerity she had known they could contain since the first night they had stumbled on each other.
“I—I always believed in you.”
Another choking sob racked her body.
“I love you.”
